Passing yards are the single largest input into fantasy quarterback scoring in every format. Standard fantasy rules award one point for every 25 passing yards, which means a 4,500-yard season is worth roughly 180 raw points before touchdowns and rushing bonuses. A quarterback who out-throws his peers by 600-800 yards in a season is almost certain to finish as a top-five fantasy QB regardless of touchdown variance, which is why passing yardage is the first thing to check when you are ranking quarterbacks in a new year.
The players who dominate the passing yardage leaderboard almost always play in high-volume, pass-heavy offenses with strong offensive lines and a full stable of pass-catchers. Weather, game script, and divisional opponents all move the needle on a given Sunday, but over a 17-game sample the leaders are usually the same names every season. Pay close attention to quarterbacks changing teams or schemes, because even an elite passer can see his volume drop 1,000+ yards in a run-heavy system.
In fantasy drafting, the passing yardage leaderboard is most useful for identifying the pocket passers who lack the rushing upside of a dual-threat QB but still post top-tier totals through sheer volume. Those players are the safer floor picks — they rarely have league-winning weeks, but they also do not bust because a matchup took away their legs. If you are a Zero-RB manager who needs a reliable QB stream, this is the board to work off of.
