What Replacement Level Means
Replacement level is the player you could realistically still add off waivers at a position, the last starter-caliber option in a typical 12-team league. The gap between the best player at a position and that replacement option is its scarcity. A bigger gap means the position falls off a cliff after the top tier, so reaching for one early protects you from that cliff. A smaller gap means the position stays deep, so you can wait and still land a comparable starter later in the draft.
